A game for more than Tar Heel fans

Hand it to North Carolina – the school knows how to kick off a celebration.
A pro alumni game featuring the likes of Vince Carter, Rasheed Wallace and members of the 2005 and 2009 title teams is set for Sept. 4. Tickets are $20 a pop, but that seems like a deal to see roughly 24 ex-Heels strut their stuff.
This news has been around a while now, but it’s still enthralling. It’s the stuff arguments and reminiscing are made of.

Few schools had more players bolt early for the NBA than UNC. This game lets people daydream about what could’ve been all-time great teams (Carter, Antawn Jamison, Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, Jeff McInnis and Shammond Williams on the same roster? Yikes.) and mouth-watering matchups.
Raymond Felton vs. Ty Lawson. Tyler Hansbrough vs. Sean May. Carter skywalking for dunks and Wayne Ellington raining 3s.
The most eagerly anticipated showdown is for 2005 vs. 2009, but that won’t happen. Deon Thompson and Ed Davis won’t be playing since, well, they’re not alums. (Argument’s sake, I go 2009 ‘cause I like their balance and ability to throw defenders at May.)
Still, I like these starting lineups submitted by ACC Now: Felton, Rashad McCants, Stackhouse, May and Wallace vs. Lawson, Ellington, Carter, Jamison and Hansbrough.
It’s almost enough to make me book a flight for Chapel Hill.
