ABOUT THIS BLOG

News, analysis, feature stories, random thoughts... if it's about college basketball, either in season or during the summer doldrums, you'll find it in Beyond the Arc.

Mike Miller

Mike Miller has been NBCSports.com's college basketball editor since 2003. It's a position he relishes; no wonder considering he transferred to Kansas to watch Paul Pierce play. Most of his favorite sports memories involve college hoops, usually during March, when every waking moment is spent thinking about March Madness.

Place your bets with UNC alumni game

Paying $20 for the chance to see Vince Carter throw down alley-oop dunks from Ty Lawson still seems like a sweet bargain (as do other alumni games). Same for watching Antawn Jamison and Rasheed Wallace play together, taking passes from Raymond Felton.

Nearly any way the North Carolina alumni game is presented, it’s an enticing show. Well, maybe not seeing Dante Calabria guard Jackie Manuel, but I digress.

The “teams” for UNC’s event this Friday were announced Thursday. Fans won’t get to see a title matchup between the 2005 and 2009 squads, but it’s a fun showcase nonetheless. (No Tyler Hansbrough due to a shin injury.)

As Tar Heel Fan breaks it down, it’ll essentially be size vs. shooters. In a game where defense probably won’t be a priority, the edge probably goes to the Blue team

The Blue team will have the #1, #2, #4 and #7 ranked players in Tar Heel history for three pointers made in a career.  What’s more, with Lawson and/or Cota out there, the fast break is going to be something to watch, especially with Carter and Ellington running alongside.

The White team’s frontline features Brendan Haywood, Jamison and Marvin Williams, with Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse and Danny Green in the mix somewhere.

(Sighs.)

It’d be fun to watch. How much is last-minute air fare from Seattle to Raleigh, anyway?

Ouch. Maybe I’ll just read the recap…

I bet $75 that I don't give a crap.  Jerry Stackhouse recently got a Spalding face tatoo courtesy of John Wall.  Why would you want to watch a guy who can't even go up against a kid who hasn't played one second of college ball, yet?
M. Jordan, Stackhouse was the help after Wall blew by his main defender. Short of fouling him, there wasn't much anybody who isn't 7 ft. could do. By the way, it's a charity game for a Cancer Center.
